Chapter Philanthropy and Service
Philanthropy is one of the most important aspects of our fraternity. In the Beta Nu chapter, we host philanthropy events on the New Mexico State University campus as well as in the surrounding community. We volunteer during the Pink Out games that are hosted by the sports teams at NMSU. At these events, we pass out hundreds of Think Pink® ribbons to those attending. Furthermore, we host several of our own chapter events in efforts to raise funds for the Zeta Tau Alpha Foundation. Some of these events include hosting Capture the Crown, S'mores Night with ZTA, and Think Pink Think Pancakes. We are constantly trying to think of new and exciting philanthropy events as we strive to serve those “within and without our circle.”
Beta Nu hosted a "Think Pink Think Pancakes" philanthropy event for students and the community here in Las Cruces. Members served pink pancakes to over 300 people in a four hour time period. We raised $1,328.00 for Brest Cancer Education and Awareness through the sales of the pink pancakes, shirts, and our milk stand. On the tables there were pictures of family members and friends that had fought breast cancer, along with their stories. Outside we had corn hole, a pancake eating contest, and a milk stand that our alumnae's children volunteered to run. Our mascot Pistol Pete also made an appearance to eat some pancakes and take photos with people at our photo booth. We enjoyed watching members of greek life, the students body, as well as the community come together for a great cause. Beta Nu also received the 2016-2017 Outstanding Achievement Best Campus/ Community Event award from NMSU Greek Life for "Think Pink Think Pancakes". Think Pink Chairman Shelby Fletcher said, " This is an amazing event that everyone seems to enjoy. The girls work hard to make sure that people are having fun and eating plenty of yummy pink pancakes."
Zeta's three national Think Pink partnerships are with American Cancer Society, Bright Pink, and the NFL! With the American Cancer Society we help recognize survivors at Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walks. With the NFL we will continue to raise awareness by distributing ribbons at "A Crucial Catch" games. With Bright Pink we will educate, equip, and empower people to be proactive advocates of their health through Brighten Up Educational Workshops! It is truly heartwarming to witness the strength and grace with which the survivors carry themselves and we are thankful to be apart of the experience. Together we will continue our commitment to FIGHT against Breast Cancer.
On campus, Beta Nu also volunteers in other organizations’ philanthropy events as well. Some examples of these annual events include, Dessert with DG, LXA Watermelon Bust, SAE Kickball, AXID Lip Sync, Sigma Chi Derby Days, Keep State Great and The Big Event.
